FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

By now you have entered the maze of comparing over 400 log home companies. This is not an easy task!  Log home companies do not compare well with each other most of the time and it is hard to do the "apples to apples" comparison. Before we answer any questions you need to ask yourself at least the following questions, before or during your search.

1. Are you willing to deal with log settlement, that may require you to adjust your second floors? (most company reps will not come back to do this)

2. Are you willing to figure, find, design, purchase and deliver materials to your job site that are not included with a log home package?

3. Are you sure you will get the same as or a better cost by doing all of #2 yourself or by paying a builder to accomplish this?

4. Is it important to have a rep that has a "hands-on" knowledge of their product? Or do you have a builder who knows log home construction?

5. Is it important to deal with a log home company that stands behind their product with warranteed and guaranteed products and service?

The answer is...................

Why "kiln-dried" logs and how do you know the logs are dried to a stable moisture level?

"Kiln-dried" lumber and materials have been around a long time. Virtually all lumber for homes is "kiln-dried". We at Kuhns Bros and Country Log Cabins, "kiln-dry" our logs to an average 13-15% moisture content. This virtually eliminates shrinkage and settling. The proof? No springs no screw jacks and no homeowners adjusting floors. And....it's guaranteed in writing.

Does "kiln-drying" add a big cost to a log home?

The short answer is, no. You will be surprised to compare a guaranteed "kiln-dried" price to an "air-dried" or "standing dead timber" log home. And, when you compare the difference in quality, there is no comparison.

Log homes cost way more than "stick-built" and I have a tight budget!

OK, compare a quality "stick-built" home with a Kuhns Bros Log Home or Country Log Cabin. Get ready to be pleasantly surprised!  We have not yet met a person who cannot afford a log home with us, especially if they are comparing quality "stick-built". Budget? We (Randy) wrote a letter to a national log home magazine, that was published, talking about the need for moderate log homes to meet a budget.

I've heard horror stories about people buying a log home and the rep and company leaving them high and dry!

Unfortunately, this does happen. That's why it's important to check a company's product, service, quality, integrity and reputation before you purchase your home from them. Also, do the same thing with the rep for that company. Good reps and companies love to give references!

Log homes have bug problems and are terrible maintenance traps!

We supply quality, nationally known, exterior stain treatments for our homes. We also supply a special, environmentally, human and pet safe, bug and bee treatment with our homes. The new technology of todays exterior stains, give you long lasting protection and dramatically reduce log home maintenance. Average staining times with KBLH & CLC homes is every 5-7 years. Log homes are not "maintenance traps".
